Nursery in Liss, Hampshire

Located in the heart of the pretty village of Liss, our second site is a testament to the passion of our founder, Ophea. Here, we embrace the Reggio Emilia approach — a philosophy that views children as strong, capable, and resilient individuals, rich with wonder and knowledge. It’s an approach that connects beautifully with the EYFS, ensuring that while we meet every educational milestone, we never lose sight of the magic of childhood.

Love. Learn. Live

At Liss, our ethos of Love, Learn, Live takes a distinct, creative shape. We provide the Love through a nurturing space where every child’s voice is heard. This allows them to learn through self-directed play and artistic expression, using resources that honour their natural curiosity. (We often find that when a child’s individuality is truly honoured, their potential knows no bounds…)

We are particularly proud of our focus on supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Inclusion isn’t just a policy for us; it’s a heartbeat. By creating an environment where every child feels secure enough to explore, we ensure that they can live with a quiet confidence and independence.

Whether they are communicating through paint, movement, or words, we recognise every small step as part of a much bigger journey. It’s about helping our children grow to become the very best version of themselves, in a community that values them exactly as they are.

The hands and hearts
behind our village setting

A philosophy like Reggio Emilia requires a team that knows how to listen—truly listen—to the “hundred languages” of children.

Our Liss setting benefits from the overarching guidance of Ophea, our Manager across both Single Steps sites. Working directly on-site to shape the daily magic at Liss is our fabulous Deputy Manager, Teresa. She is backed by our dedicated team of qualified Nursery Educators and Nursery Assistants, each chosen not just for their qualifications, but for their genuine warmth and empathy. (Particularly when it comes to our specialised focus on supporting SEND children, where patience and understanding mean everything…)

Just like our sister site, we place an immense value on continuous professional development. Our educators are always learning, staying right at the forefront of Early Years evolution. By constantly honing our skills and challenging ourselves, we ensure that the care we provide isn’t just standard; it’s deeply intentional, reflective, and supportive of every single child’s unique pace.

Nursery curriculum

We encourage your children to explore what fascinates them, because leaning into their natural wonder is the most powerful way to weave together all seven key developmental areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we view every child as a rich, capable researcher. So, whether they are drawn to light play, storytelling, or artistic expression, we use their unique interests as a launching pad to shape a truly tailored educational journey.

Inside our nurturing environments and out on our frequent village adventures, we constantly create moments that build self-esteem, deepen curiosity, and cultivate quiet confidence. While based in Liss, our children also love taking our nursery minibus over to Medstead to experience the magic of Forest School. It ensures that when it’s time to take that big step into school, they leave us independent, inspired, and deeply ready for life.

Some of the extra-curricular activities we provide:

  • Dough Disco – the children model playdough while moving to music, this builds the muscles in their hands and develops fine-motor skills in preparation for activities such as holding a pencil and writing.

  • Boogie Mites – a really fun musical activity, which develops the children’s balance, coordination, and understanding of letters and sounds.

  • Sing and Signwe are affiliated with this superb educational organisation, and offer their award-winning programme dedicated to helping babies and young children to develop their communication skills before they can speak.

  • Outings & Forest School Visits – we make full use of our pretty village with regular local outings, alongside exciting minibus trips to our Medstead site, giving children hands-on time in nature and a rich understanding of the wider world.

What the parents say

We can’t thank everyone at the nursery enough for the love, care and support you’ve given our son. He has absolutely loved coming every day, has made some wonderful friends, and always talks so fondly about the amazing staff.

It’s so emotional to be saying goodbye as he starts school. We know he’ll miss everyone so much, and so will we. Thank you for giving him such a happy, caring start to his journey and for playing such an important part in his early years. We’ll always be grateful for the wonderful memories you’ve given him.
