Nursery in Medstead, Hampshire
A nurturing nursery for babies, toddlers and preschool children, set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside near Alton.
At Single Steps Nurseries, we believe that childhood is something to be truly valued… a fleeting, precious time where every small step is actually part of something much bigger. Our Medstead site, nestled within the peaceful grounds of the Convent of St Lucy, is where it all began. It is a place where the rhythm of the day is set by the rustle of leaves and the curious discoveries of our youngest explorers.

Love. Learn. Live
You see, for us, Love, Learn, Live is more than just a philosophy. It’s the very way we shape each child’s experience. Love provides that essential foundation — a calm, nurturing environment where children feel secure enough to take those first brave steps into the world. Because when a child feels truly held, they begin to learn with purpose…
Perhaps what makes Medstead so unique is our commitment to Forest School as a part of our curriculum. Set in such expansive, beautiful grounds, the outdoors isn’t just a playground; it’s our primary classroom. Here, through carefully chosen resources and thoughtfully designed experiences that honour individuality, children engage with the natural world in its purest form.
And in time, this deep connection to nature becomes something they live — a quiet confidence, an independence, and a genuine readiness to engage with the world around them. It’s about growing to become their best, one muddy footprint at a time.

Who will be guiding your child
At Medstead, we believe that the right environment requires the right people to bring it to life. Individuals who understand that early education is a delicate blend of structure and wonder.
Leading the way as Manager is Ophea, who oversees both our Medstead and Liss settings, ensuring our core values weave beautifully across our nurseries. On the ground here at Medstead, Ophea works closely with our amazing Deputy Manager, Elaine, and our wonderful Third in Charge, Catherine. Together, they form a trusted leadership triad, warmly supported by a passionate team of qualified Nursery Educators and Nursery Assistants.
We are, admittedly, incredibly ‘hot’ on training. The world of Early Years development never stands still, and neither do we. We are constantly creating opportunities for our staff to refine, hone, and expand their skills. Because ultimately, deepening our understanding is the only way to deliver the exceptional care and superior service that both you and your child deserve.
Nursery curriculum
We encourage your children to do what they love, because this is the best way to prepare them for learning all seven of the key developmental areas laid out in the Early Years Foundation Stage. So if your child loves painting, stories, or playing with mud, we use their passion as a platform to build their early years education on. Meaning that learning is tailored to each child individually.
Whether indoors or outdoors we’re always seeking out opportunities to grow confidence, establish self-esteem, and develop independence, while creating new learning experiences. So that when the time comes for your children to leave us and go to school, they’re more than prepared for the next leg of their educational journey. Because we firmly believe that if you get a child’s pre-school foundation just right; you set them up for life.
